Description: Cammie Morgan has lost her father and her memory, but in the heart-pounding conclusion to the best-selling Gallagher Girls series, she finds her greatest mission yet. Cammie and her friends finally know why the terrorist organization called the Circle of Cavan has been hunting her. Now the spy girls and Zach must track down the Circle’s elite members to stop them before they implement a master plan that will change Cammie—and her country—forever.
United We Spy is a satisfying conclusion to the Gallagher Girl’s series by Ally Carter. It’s the final mission to take down the Circle of Cavern. Cammie, Zach, Macey, Bex and Liz are back for their most important adventure yet. There’s plenty of action, breaking and entering and exploding things. Above all, the elements of friendship, loyalty and bravery that are the foundation for this series are also front and centre. This is one emotional finale that sees all of the characters grown up, ready to face the world.
After all the mayhem the Circle of Cavern has caused, Cammie and the gang are trying to track and capture them in an attempt to protect those who they love. However, the Circle has put into motion something big that will have disastrous consequences. Its up to Cammie to stop the Circle before it’s too late. United We Spy wraps up all the storylines and ends with a very touching and satisfying finale. Carter gives us enough to know where the characters are headed but left the ending open. United We Spy also has plenty of humour and romance incorporated into the story. My only complaint was that we didn’t get to see the Gallagher Academy as much in this book as the story took the characters away from school. Even though we don’t get to see the school as much, the Gallagher Academy still plays a significant part in the epic climax.
The words I would use to describe the Gallagher Girls series are unrealistic realistic fiction. It’s how Ally Carter has described the series in the past and it’s a fitting description. Sure, sometimes the plot is a bit far-fetched but I think it serves as a good reminder. A reminder that sometimes the impossible is possible. Its nice to believe that there is a world in which exceptional individuals can achieve the impossible. United We Spy reinforces this message, especially with the girls graduating and facing a future away from the school. Cammie struggles with the future. It’s a common feeling that most teenagers go though and Carter handles it well by making it relatable. United We Spy also carries the message that everything will be okay because you can achieve anything and be anything you want. Liz’s graduation speech was touching and a beautiful moment that cemented this message. Plus these books are tons of fun. Who wouldn’t want to go to spy school? I know I would.
Cammie and the girls have come a long way from the beginning of the series, especially Cammie. She is no longer the girl who wanted a normal life and a normal boyfriend. She’s been kidnapped, tortured and messed with. In United We Spy she decides to stop running and fights head on. She struggles with what she wants from the future but she has her mum, the girls and Zach to help her figure it all out. Liz and Preston play a larger role in the story. Bex is a great best friend, always trying to push cammie to realise her potential when she gives up. Zach also has a lot to deal with in regards to his mother. His relationship with Cammie is sweet.
A Gallagher Girls book is always a fun read. United We Spy is a beautiful conclusion to a fantastic series. I for one will miss these characters.
